Wrapping it Up

Is gift wrapping a chore or a creative outlet for you?

Having everything you need in one place makes the process easier, of course, but how and where do you store it all? Gather your wrapping supplies and take an inventory.  List what you have, need, and what needs to be used up. Then determine how many presents need to be wrapped.  Knowing this will give you a better idea of what you need to store.

The Container Store's web site offers at least 13 storage items specifically for wrapping as do many other sites and local stores at this time of year.  The key is finding the one that will fit your needs and is easy to store itself.

If you use gift bags and tags and only occasionally use folded or rolled wrapping paper, an organizer that will store multiple rolls of paper and ribbon isn't for you.  Read the descriptions, note the sizes of the organizers what they store .  Some look good but the design makes the product, when full, difficult to store, and sometimes even move!  Choose an organizer that is the most versatile and/or one that can be adapted to store things other than gift wrap in case your needs change.

Once your presents are wrapped, you'll know the supplies that you'll need next time.  Make notes so you don't under or over buy again.  You may find that your storage needs will be far less next season.

Christmas Tips for your Decorating Style

What kind of Christmas decorating style do you enjoy?  Christmas is one of my very favorite holidays.  I have several artificial Christmas trees that I love to decorate.   Some years I bring them all out and other years I just decorate maybe just a few to bring the magic of Christmas to our home.  The following quick and easy decorating tips will help to bring some style to your home:

A "Natural" style brings the outdoors in and says organic to any room.  Pinecones, berries, wild branches are some of the finds that I use for this decorating style.  You can hang a garland made up of pinecones, cinnamon sticks, nuts or acorns strung together with natural jute across your mantle or on your tree.  You can also use pinecones on a table runner with some natural twigs and potpourri or nuts.  An upright pinecone at each place setting can be used as a name place holder.  The colors for this style are usually natural beiges, browns, greens and reds.  You can use this theme on accent pillows or décor on an accent tables that brings the outdoors in.  Get some cinnamon scented pinecones from the grocery store and put into a rustic container by your entrance to greet your guests.

A "White Christmas" evokes snow and icicles.  You can use this with an abundance of a limited color palette of whites, creams, silvers and golds.  The key to this look is to use various textures, crystal, lights, or glitter to make any room look glamorous and reflective of snow and a white Christmas.  I have an angel collection with various white, silver and frosted ornaments that make this theme seem very luxurious and serene.

An "Updated Traditional" look is a classic.  Some of the motifs will be with us always such as Christmas trees, berries, holly, stockings and snowflakes.  Even though the classic Christmas colors of red and green are standby's why not put a spin and use the "new" apple green to spice this look up.  Bring out all of your traditional and glamorous treasures and use them in abundance throughout your home.

Don't forget to decorate a tree or an area just for those kids and grandkids.  I have a Mary Engelbreight Christmas collection that goes on a small Christmas tree I usually put in my kitchen.  This is the tree that puts a smile on the children of all ages that visit us.  It doesn't matter what style you like, make sure to decorate even the smallest tree or area to enlighten you, your family and friends this Christmas!
