    Interior Redesign
    oriental retreat

Challenge: The clients wanted their Master Bedroom to reflect the Oriental theme that represented calm and peace, but were not sure how to achieve that look. The homeowners loved their newly angled bed, but did not know how to bring the room together.

Solution: We "uncluttered" the room. The bed had previously been angled in their bedroom which was great. We took their authentic Asian accessories and pictures and made the bed their focal point. Once we angled the Oriental fan above their bed, everything else fell into place. Now the clients can enjoy their new "peaceful" retreat they originally desired.

    4th of July Design

Decorating for the 4th is simple. All you need to remember is red, white, and blue, that's it. Wow, this is the shortest article I have ever written! Just kidding, it's not quite that simple, but it is easy.

There are many, many 4th of July decorations out there to choose from but you can get the same kind of look with a lot of things in your home by following a few simple tips.

The first tip is to use the patriotic colors of red, white, and blue. White is easy to use. You can start with white dishes, flowers, or even white painted furniture to build on. I'm sure you have some white items already in your home, so dig them out.

Luckily, blue is a really hot color right now, from pale to navy, so it should be easy to find some blue accessories to work with for a change. Use dark blues as your grounding color. You can make your white dishes "pop" by adding blue placemats or napkins with them. There aren't many blue flowers out there, but you can add a blue bow to your white flowers to spruce them up as well. Or, how about adding a blue runner, vase, or bowl of blueberries on top of your white painted table?

Red can be easily used as your accent color. Use little punches of red to finish off the look of your patriotic theme. For example, add some red candles to a table, a basket of red roses for a centerpiece, or a red pillow to your Adirondack chair.

Next, think of family heirlooms and traditions. A distressed painted furniture piece used outside with a colorful throw in a red check or bold striped pattern would look very patriotic. Use lots of old baskets for displaying or serving food with checkered napkins tucked inside. Hang American flags all over from your front door or porch to your back garden. Cover your patio furniture, swing, or other upholstered pieces with bright colored fabrics in red, white and blues. By adding some hay bails for extra seating, and some old tin buckets for cold drinks, it will give you the feeling of an old country fair.

The 4th is a time to celebrate our country's independence and to celebrate family. Use anything and everything to decorate with that will remind you of the good ole days.

    Happy 4th of July!

    Staging Tip
    designed to sell
Have you ever watched Sell this House or Designed to Sell?

They are great shows with many tips on things to do when selling your house. You do need to remember however; this is TV and they accomplish amazing amount of work in a short amount of time and for a very low cost. The short amount of time is possible if you have a crew come in to do the work as they do and the changes they make are relatively low cost.

On the TV shows there is no charge for labor of the crews and that is were you would see a difference. The most important tip you will get from these shows or others like them is to hire a professional stager to help you and to listen to their recommendations. Following that tip will be worth its wait in gold.

     Porch and Patio Pampering

Now that summer is officially here its time to sit back, slow down, and enjoy the very thing you worked so hard for all year; your home. Here are some quick and inexpensive ideas to pamper your home and yourself for the summer.

For some easy summer centerpieces use fresh flower blooms in some creative ways.

    1. Cut the stems of some flowers right up to the bloom and simply float them in a large clear bowl of water, a fish bowl, or hurricane. Use big bold flowers that will make an impact and fill around them with greens or loose petals.

    2. Do you have a set of 3 bowls that graduate in size? Add a block of florist foam to each bowl and soak with water. Put the largest bowl on the bottom, the second largest on that one and finish with the smallest on top. Now take a couple dozen carnations, Gerber daisies, or any other compact flower and cut stems relatively short so the stem goes into the foam but the head of the flower fills in the space left on each level of your stacked bowls. Coordinate the color of your bowls with your flower choice so you have a nice contrasting color scheme that fits in with your decor.

    3. Use a ceramic frog (a container with multiple holes in top and/or sides) or even a toothbrush holder and fill with floral stems for a quick and compact floral arrangement.

Do you have a canopy on your deck or patio without sides? Make it into a cozy retreat by simply sliding 84 sheer curtain panels (around $5 per set) onto the horizontal poles and letting them blow in the breeze. Move your swing, chaise lounge or even an air mattress with tons of pillows under it for a very relaxing place out of the sun. All you need now is a hunky man waving a palm branch and youre all set. ;)

Entertain your best friends outside by creating an outdoor room with some comfy chairs, occasional tables, your floral arrangements (see above), candles, your favorite music, tasty food, and delicious drinks. Use this time to enjoy the best things in life; your friends and family, your heath, and your home.
