Decorating
Resolutions
by: Lori

We all make
new years
resolutions,
and like
most of us
we don’t
stick with
them, the
most popular
being to
lose weight
and get into
shape. Well,
let’s use
what we’ve
learned
about why a
dieting
resolution
fails and
apply it to
a decorating
resolution
that we can
stick with.
There are
three things
we know
about
dieting, you
need to
follow a
plan, you
need to make
it
reasonable
so you will
stick with
it, and you
need to
maintain
after you
lose the
weight.
Well, we can
apply the
same
principles
to a large
decorating
or home
improvement
project to
ensure we
get it
done...
After you
take down
the tree and
put away the
Christmas
decorations
your home
can feel so
empty or
bare. Now is
a great time
for a
change. Here
are just a
couple of
tips:
Try a new
furniture
arrangement.
You
probably
moved your
furniture
around to
accommodate
your tree or
removed a
piece of
furniture.
Now that the
tree is gone
how does
that
arrangement
look? Do you
need that
piece of
furniture
back? How
about trying
something
new and
arrange the
furniture
towards a
new focal
point such
as a
fireplace or
built-ins.
Don’t have a
fireplace?
You can
purchase a
pre-assembled
mantle, set
it against a
bare wall
and paint
the wall
inside the
mantle
black. Add
accessories
and artwork
on top, and
a plant or
candles in
front, and
you have a
ready made
fireplace.
Don’t
bring out
all of the
accessories.
How many of
you have the
same
accessories
in the exact
same spot as
when you
bought them
years ago?
Maybe you
received a
new piece
for the
holidays?
Try looking
at all of
your
accessories
and finding
a few with a
theme, or
something
that relates
them to each
other and
just use
those. You
can always
switch them
out later in
the year for
some of your
other
accessories...
When trying
to sell your
home this
winter don’t
forget to
show your
potential
buyers just
how great it
looks the
rest of the
year as
well.
Depending on
where you
live your
home can
look
dramatically
different
from season
to season.
Why not show
your
potential
buyers just
how
beautiful
your home
can look
during each
and every
season
instead of
just when
they are
looking?
You can do
this by
taking
pictures of
your home
now and
periodically
through the
year until
you sell it.
Think about
this. What
if you live
in New
England and
you’re
trying to
sell your
home this
winter?
Maybe you
have
beautiful
gardens and
great
landscaping
that is
covered with
snow this
time of
year. How
are you
going to
show
potential
buyers just
how great it
is? With
pictures!
Getting
re-organized
after
the
holidays
by: Lori
Brasseur, LB
Designs
If you’re
like me, you
feel a
little
overwhelmed
with
everything
there is to
do to get
ready for
the
holidays.
Not to
mention all
the work it
takes to
bring the
house back
to normal
after the
holidays. So
I’ve come up
with a plan
to not only
assist you
with taking
down all the
holiday
decorations,
but at the
same time
organizing
everything
in a way
that it will
be easier to
redecorate
next season.
As you start
to take down
your
decorations,
instead of
collecting
all your
greens or
all of your
lights, and
storing them
together,
try to
dismantle
your
decorating
one section
at a time
and store
all of these
items
together.
For
instance,
start with
the tree and
store just
your tree
decorations
together in
one
container.
This way you
can label
the
container
and be able
to bring out
just what
you want and
need when
you decorate
next year.
Just want to
decorate the
mantle for
now? Then
just bring
out the
mantle
decorations...
All of
our
Christmas
decor
is
now
30% off
while it
lasts.
Come
in now
for the
best
selection!
