Decorating Tip
Vases Make a spring statement |
|
What
an effect fresh flowers can make in a room! Whether
you have a gorgeous cutting garden or just buy cut
flowers as the need or mood arises, having a
selection of vases on hand makes it quick and easy
to assemble an arrangement that can brighten a room
or add color and interest to a dinner or buffet
table.
Let your room furnishings and the way
you entertain dictate the vase style. Start with a
few then add as storage space and budget allow.
Classic glass, ceramic and porcelain shapes can go
from casual to formal depending on the floral
arrangement and the way the vase is displayed. If
you seem to have a collection of plain florist
delivery vases, don't despair. Dress them up- try
organdy wraps tied with a beautiful cord and tassels
or a ribbon tie. Don't forget that vases may be used
without flowers for their sculptural effect.
Look for unusual styles such as those
shown above made of galvanized metal. They can
decorate a table, mantel or may be hung from
railings or hooks using the handle on the back. The
color can go from season to season using various
flowers, greenery and embellishments.
It's not necessary to have a large
collection of vases in your inventory. Avoid clutter
and storage problems by adding a few carefully
selected, versatile pieces that will serve you well
for years to come

Entertaining
~ Bring the Spring Colors Indoors
|
|

"April showers bring May flowers" is a childhood
rhyme that is true. Small
bursts of colors budding around us bring smiles.
The following are some quick, easy and
creative ways to enjoy flowers for your
entertaining needs indoors:
-
If you
don't have some nice vases, you can make
something special with a jar, a piece of
remnant fabric, a rubber band and some
ribbon. Place a jar in
the middle of some fabric, cut the fabric
into a square about an inch above the mouth
of the jar with pinking shears.
Pull up the fabric around the jar;
place a rubber band to hold the fabric in
place around the top of the jar.
Hide the rubber band by tying a piece
of ribbon over it, and then tie into a bow.
-
Get a
set of vases, jars or bottles the same size.
Place one flower in each
jar and display in a row on your table or
shelf.
-
For
larger vases and bouquets you can add lemons
or other seasonal fruit in the bottom.
Then add your flowers.
This will give an additional splash
of color and interest to your floral
display.
-
Another
idea is to get scrapbook paper with a fresh
"spring-like" design and wrap around an old
can and secure with double stick tape.
It will look contemporary and fresh.
No matter what style you like best, create
special touches of spring flowers on your
dresser, bathroom counter, table or nightstand
for you and your guests to enjoy!

Real Estate Staging |
|
|

Before:
The owner of this small condo had already moved out
but left a few pieces of furniture behind.
The room looks cold and empty and certainly
not inviting at all. This is not what we want
potential buyers to feel. And you'll notice that the
emphasis was on the large air conditioning unit that
isn't very attractive. Working
with a small budget we needed to change all that.
After:
We added color with accessories and art, and
greenery to give it some life. This
also keeps the eye from focusing on the air
conditioner. The room now looks
warm and inviting. A place you
could actually see yourself comfortably living in.

IRIS Interior Redesign Conference
2007 ~ Nashville, Tenn
Nashville was by far the most exciting
conference yet, not only because it was in Nashville,
but because I hung out with Aaron Foster, the
host and designer from "Freestyle", one of the
newest redesign shows on HGTV! It was very rewarding to
meet a star who portrays exactly what we do as
redesigners! Aaron shared with us how he
became a TV star and how he incorporated his design
experience into the show.
Of course he looks great...me not so good as usual! :)
Okay, let's see, Lee Snijdners from "Design on a Dime"
last year. Aaron Foster from "Freestyle" this year.
Who will be next year? I can't wait!!!
